Biography

John David Jackson (born November 18, 1977), better known by his stage name Fabolous [sic], is an American rapper. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, part of his early popularity arose from his hit single "Can't Deny It" in 2001, from his debut album Ghetto Fabolous.

It takes talent to make the struggle to succeed seem effortless, but that is the gift that separates artists like Brooklyn's John Jackson, aka Fabolous, from the everyday MC. While most rappers spend more and more time convincing the masses of their "hustle," Fabolousletshisworkspeakforitself. Withfivealbums,two platinum (2001's Ghetto Fabolous and 2003's Street Dreams) and two Gold (2004's Real Talk and 2007's From Somethin to Nothin') to his credit, the veteran hit maker still exudes a rookie-of-the year swagger. After recording for both Elektra and Atlantic Records, Fab is enjoying a home coming with the legendary Def Jam label. However, don't let the fresh swag fool you, Fabolous is a well- known veteran in the rap game. His quest to stardom began back in 1998, when the infamous DJ Clue discovered him. Upon realizing Fabolous' potential and talent, DJ Clue decided to release his first recorded single "If They Want It'" on his album DJ Clue? The Professional. Shortly afterwards, Fabolous saw opportunity in signing a recording deal with Elektra and recorded his first smash hit "I Can't Deny It", a remix of Tupac Shakur's "Ambitionz as a Rider" featuring the well known west coast rapper, Nate Dogg. This hit single not only put Fabolous' name on the Billboard Top 100 hits and Rhythmic 40 charts, it also put his name in the streets. Fabolous released his first solo debut album Ghetto Fabolous in 2001. It peaked at #4 in the Billboard 200 with all four singles reaching the Top 40.

Two years later, Fabolous released his sophomore album entitled Street Dreams. Similarly to his debut album, Street Dreams peakedatfourthplaceontheBillboardalbumchart. Thatsame year Fab released his mixtape, More Street Dreams, Part 2: the Mixtape, which charted at #28 in Billboard 200. Fab continued to gain exposure and fans by producing mix tapes that showcased his rapping ability while allowing him to build relationships with influential musicians like Mariah Carey, Notorious B.I.G. and Musiq Soulchild. In 2004, Fabolous released the album Real Talk, which peaked at #6 on the Billboard album charts. He decided to leave Atlantic Records and signed a contract with Def Jam. Fabolous's fourth album entitled From Nothin to Somethin' featured some of hip-hop's hottest musicians such as Timbaland, Akon, Swizz Beatz and Jermaine Dupri. 2009 was a pivotal year for Fabolous. His latest album Loso's Way was released and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 99,000 copies in its first week. It became Fabolous' first albumtotopthechart.

Fabolous has learned a lot from his time in the industry and is eager to capitalize on his experience. "I haven't peaked yet," he explains. "I was happy with the past records, but I have some adversity to learn off of for the future." "I'm trying to bring good music back to the game," he says confidently. "And anybody that's bringing good music, the hype is gonna follow them." Already recognized for his hit-making ability, Fabolous is eager to show the diversity of his technique while staying true to his blueprint for success.
